ABOUT WALKER AG CONSULTANCY

Walker Ag Consultancy was seeded by Tim Walker after being awarded the Rising Star back in 2011.  Tim attributes his success at that time, as a result of being involved in a leadership development program with Hort Innovation.  There were immediate benefits of being an award winner.  He took up a senior position with Roberts and realised there was an appetite for industry connection and developmental growth.  Tim conceived the industry forum for the Tasmanian Agricultural sector and then continued to roll it out under his own guise with Walker Ag Consultancy.

“I’m not a born leader, he says, I have grown to be a leader.”  He took the plunge on April 1st, 2018 to open his independent consultancy service that specialises in horticultural crops, providing a range of agronomy services.

Tim brought the family farm in the same year he started Walker Ag.  “The aim has always been to sell knowledge, not products,” and the approach is working, as he practices his own farming alongside his clients.  Walker Ag has tripled its business since conception in 2018 and now runs with two senior Agronomists and Agricultural Ecologist Ali.

The team produce soil tests through to detailed reports that can maximise capability of productivity on site from a market garden through to whole farm planning on 1000’s of acres.  Walker Ag’s tailor-made service has been proven to increase quality and production.

TIM WALKER BIOGRAPHY

Tim Walker likes to practice what he preaches.  He’s got the necessary certificates, diploma’s, and industry networks from years in agronomy, but it’s that innate knowledge that comes with being raised on the land and continuing to farm that gives Tim an authentic edge.  Read more about Tim’s journey in the industry here. Tim left school in grade 10, taking on a traineeship and trying his hand at all things Agricultural – milking cows to being a tree arborist- his thirst for knowledge and experience is unlimited.

Tim’s high engagement in the Tasmanian agricultural industry has placed him at the forefront of knowledge and research.  He has product trials ongoing at his own property.  He also hosts the Walker Ag Consultancy vegetable industry forum which pre- COVID had up to 100 growers and advisors in attendance – “a great way to present information to a large number of people, but at the same time, there is merit in the one -to- one discussions you have with clients where you can pass industry knowledge on”.  In 2020, Walker Ag Consultancy was recognised as Regional Winner in the Syngenta Australia Growth Awards Productivity categoryTim Walker interview.

Family plays an important role in Tim Walker’s life.  “It’s number 1, Walker Ag Consultancy is number 2 and the farm is number 3!” Farming is a lifestyle that Tim shares with his wife and three children – rearing animals, moving irrigators, slashing the paddock – they are all involved.  “My wife Evie and I were married on our family property under an old Oak tree.”

He thrives with the ongoing investment in his future. The scaling up of his business, the continued learning and sharing of his lived experience whether it’s presenting to TAFE students or a room full of industry stakeholders, Tim is a trusted advisor in the field.
